Dark Decadent Perfume

Dark Decadent Perfume

Why am I posting this? It just seemed like it would be fun to talk about two of the most infamous perfumes of all time (and they both do smell wonderful): Dior's Poison and Yves Saint Laurent's Opium.

Poison (Dior): Poison is sweet and spicy, as well as hazy and smoky. It's dominated by beautiful flowers and heady spices. It's got a lot of white flowers: Jasmine, orange blossom, and above all tuberose. White flowers have the strongest fragrances of all flowers, so these scents form a floral cloud. It contains a large amount of spices - cinnamon, coriander, and anise - as well as myrrh and cedar-wood. There's also a sweetness to the perfume, given to it by berries and vanilla. It's very much an "alpha female" scent - bold, powerful, and ultra-feminine. Poison is very "Old Hollywood", combining elegant glamour with hyper-feminine strength.

Opium (Yves Saint Laurent): Opium is rich, bitter, and floral. It contains several fruits - plum, peach, and orange. The scent is also full of spices: Bay leaf, clove, and pepper. It contains incense as well, which makes it deep and dark. Most dramatic of all is the rose. The perfume has a lot of rose, and the rose makes the perfume romantic and glorious. Opium is incredibly sexy; it's mysterious, smoldering - and aggressive. It's also oddly androgynous. While Opium is a woman's perfume, it could easily be worn by a man, so long as he had the right sort of charisma.
